Port Forwards using the Verizon FIOS Router

The real confusing part was that when setting a custom forward with custom ports, there are fields title Source Port and Destination Port. There is also a ''Forward to Port'' Field.

Here is a (hopefully clear) explanation on what these ports mean:

Source Port -  Source Traffic from your computer can originate from any port, depending on the application creating the traffic. This field is to specify what port the traffic leaving your computer should be from. I usually set it to 'ANY'.

Destination Port - Where is the traffic that left your computer heading? This is the port that the traffic is aiming for. When setting up a single RDP forward, set this to 3389. If you have several computers you want to RDP into, and you don''t have a Terminal Services Proxy, you will need to specify a different port number here. Example:   have the router forward traffic from 3389 to 3389 for one machine, and from 3390 to 3389 to another machine. You can use this to obfuscate a standard RDP connection as well. Suppose you set the Destination Port to 12345, and specify that the router forward all this traffic to 3389. Now, you can only access the internal computer via RDP on port 12345.

Forward to Port - This one is easy. This is the Destination Port on the INTERNAL computer you are trying to access. RDP is port 3389. WWW is port 80. SSL is port 443. Etc.

This screenshot should give an example of how to set up a simple RDP connection:

With this configuration, you enter this URL into your RDP client:  PUBLIC-IP-ADDRESS:3390

The router will forward all traffic coming from 3390 and forward it to your internal computer to port 3389.
